Guided Windsurf Experience Trips

Small-group windsurf experience camps led by Timo Mullen — 35 years spent chasing wind and waves around the world, now guiding riders to the same spots and sharing what he's learned along the way.

Your guide

35 years finding the world's best windsurfing.

Windsurfing has been my life for 35 years — my father was one of the first windsurfers in Ireland back in the 1970s. After making a living as a pro windsurfer, and becoming known for my travel adventures, I thought it was time to give everyone a taste of the pro windsurf adventure with my Experience Camps in Ireland, Scotland, and around the world.

The Experience Camps are exactly that — an experience: a hassle-free adventure to one of your bucket-list locations, alongside like-minded, open-minded riders. Travelling is stressful, so I remove the stress — choosing the destination, the best places to stay, the right conditions, and all the local knowledge you'd only get from someone who actually lives there.

Where it started

Our first road trip to Magheroarty, in my brother Finn's Renault 4 — the trip that started our addiction to "The Search." I won the first Magheroarty Wave Classic at 16.

Windsurfing runs in the family — my brother Finn is a 13-time Irish Champion, my sister-in-law is a multiple-time Women's Champion, and my younger brother is an award-winning windsurfing filmmaker and photographer.

Life on the road

Chasing the right wind is not your worry, leave that up to Timo!

The experience

Real-life Unartificial Intelligence.

35 years of travelling has taught me that being prepared is everything. So much time gets wasted not knowing the best beaches, the right conditions, how to read a forecast, the safest place to launch, or where to stay, eat, and grab a well-earned beer afterwards. The Experience Camps hand you all of that instantly — straight from one of the most-travelled windsurfers in the world.

If you're after an intense technique focussed coaching trip, don't book with me. But if your technique is holding you back, I'll always say so — simple wavesailing mistakes often take five minutes to fix and change your sailing for life. And sailing alongside riders at your level, at the best spot on that day, does more for your progress than any lesson could.

Local knowledge

Reading the forecast, right.

Reading a forecast is one thing — knowing what it actually means on the ground at a spot you've sailed for decades is another. That's the difference between a good session and a wasted day.

A typical day

This is what we aim to do, every day.

Every camp bends around the forecast, but most days settle into a rhythm something like this — times are a guide, not a rule.

First light
Optional beach check to read the conditions — and if there's no wind, an optional swim and light workout, something I've done religiously for five years.

Flat days

What if there's no wind?

Flat days happen — that's sailing. When they do, it's an optional beach swim and light workout, exploring the coastline on foot, and talking through technique on dry land while we wait for the wind to turn. Nobody's ever complained about an extra hour in a beach sauna either.

Every trip, captured

Come home with more than memories.

The Experience Camps carry on a tradition — my trips over the years have always been well documented, shot by some of the best watersports photographers in the world: John Carter, Jamie Hancock, Tam Mullen, Henning Von Jagow, ThisisSligo, and Stephen Longstaffe, to name a few.

At the end of the trip, you'll be handed a folder of your best moments — hopefully a shot good enough for the mantlepiece, or even the magazines, or a shot with new friends you've made on the trip. You might even bump into someone famous like I did!!
